Miracles

To me there are two kinds of miracles. One kind are those fantastic stories of holy scripture—disembodied hands that write on walls, talking donkeys and fireballs from heaven that burn young and old to a crisp. The other kind is the miracle of reality—the miracle of blue skies, sex, chocolate, beer, children’s laughter, love...

I know that christians seem to only see miracles as an unexplainable supernatural act that can only be the work of god.

I think many people of faith are blinded to the other meaning of what miracles mean. The dictionary has this meaning also: (A wonder:, Marvel)

I agree with the everyday miracles (That are mostly overlooked) that we have like blue skies, Nature, Wildlife, Starry night, Sunrise, Love, Sex, Laughter, ETC. ETC. I think just our existence in the universe is a miracle.

I feel many people of religion have missed these miracles in the natural world cause they are to focused on the supernatural world or life not of this reality. Years of their lives are wasted missing this.

I feel they've missed the big picture of life....

Hi everyone - my son is visiting (he lives in Vancouver, I live in Winnipeg, so I don't see him that often) so I won't be writing much for the next few days. I just wanted to comment on this - I agree with John and Brian completely. The fact that our earth hangs on nothing, turning constantly, just far enough from the sun to sustain life, is a miracle. That there are so many different kinds of nature - desert, ocean, mountains, prairies, lakes & bush...and even things that humans have made are miracles. I love the way cities look at night - the darkness covers a lot of the mess and the lights look like jewels. I could go on and on, but you have both pretty much said it all! We have boats to go on water - I don't need Jesus to walk on water to believe in miracles.

It's interesting, because we were just having a discussion on this in class yesterday!

It kind of depends on your definition of "miracle". I think Christians define it as a supernatural happening, something that can't happen by natural means. Whereas I think in your second list of miracles you're referring to a miracle more along the lines of something wonderful or beautiful or enjoyable.
