We wonder why there's so much mental and physical illness, unhappiness, obsession with consumerism, and crime. It's because the United States and Canada are largely bible believing christians, and the god of "love" is the same one that you are quoting in your questions (thought of the day 167). We are so screwed up because we don't understand what love is. Is it fear? My mother says that we are supposed to fear god and love god. Another part of the bible claims that perfect love casts out fear. Which is it? I would say that you are supposed to have fear. We have eternal damnation hanging over our heads if we don't believe something that is utterly unbelievable. It's amazing that anyone from a christian home can live a remotely normal, functional life. The concepts are completely screwed up - black is white, up is down. It's like Orwell's 1984 - thoughtcrime. The only unforgiveable sin is not to believe that christ died for my sins. Anything else will be forgiven. How sick is that?????

I have really struggled to become a functioning human being because of the confusion of my christian upbringing. I think many christians just move along like zombies, without really thinking about what they believe. I appreciate christians who reflect and comment on this website - I may not agree with you, but you are searching and questioning. That's all any of us can ask for.
