thought of the day.277

Just watched the 2006 Academy Award nominated documentary, “Deliver Us from Evil,” about the Catholic Church’s 1,600 year old sexual abuse cover-up.

I want to throw up. Made me never want to set foot in a Catholic church again. I will, I’m sure, but will do so with a new understanding of the inherent wickedness of the Church hierarchy.

It's inaccurate to say that the institution of the Church is inherently wicked.

The church is made up of people. It is people who are inherently wicked, not a Church institution.

Both Church and non-Church history testifies to that fact.

I was quite specific in naming the Catholic Church HIERARCHY not churches in general and not people. (I would never say people are inherently wicked-People are inherently people, capable of good and evil). And perhaps my use of the word “wicked” to describe the hierarchy was a poor choice. Maybe I could say that due to the immense power it holds over individuals and because of the inherent opaqueness of the Catholic Church hierarchy it has proven to be a breeding ground of all manner of injustices. And of course Martin Luther was moved to point out many of the abuses.

The movie “Doubt” showed how pedophile priests were protected and rewarded while truth and children and their families were sacrificed.

The hierarchy is just now becoming a bit more transparent and only because of outside forces (countless lawsuits).
