thought of the day.74

An ice cream cone doesn’t last forever and we enjoy it all the same. Isn’t it enough to look at life like that? Each day a different flavor to be tasted, to be savored.

This is an interesting way to deal with the question, "What happens to a person at death?"

Most people don't realize that committing to naturalism/atheism also means accepting that there is nothing after death. You live, you die, and you're done. Food for worms!

It seems to me you are trying to provide comfort to the adherents of this view. You elsewhere postulate that comfort is an obstacle to the truth.

My point was that even if we are ultimately food for worms we can still savor life. This life actually becomes more precious when one believes it is not going to be followed by a never-ending life.

As to your suggestion that I am contradicting myself about us often seeking comfort rather than truth I just don’t see that.

By the way, suggesting that we are merely food for worms is rather short-sighted. “Our” atoms will find their way into all sorts of organisms and other people and eventually be recycled in the stars that gave birth to the materials of life in the first place.
