“Zoo” is a cuddly name for animal prison.
No matter how enlightened a particular zoo may be in their education and conservation efforts, their imprisonment of animals is immoral and perpetuates the myth that animals exist for us. We should preserve natural habitats, not incarcerate animals in unnatural ones.

Lilly Tomlin is that you???
Does Lilly care about the suffering of animals? Cool. Was not aware of that.
That was a poor attempt at humor.
You may remember Jenny the elephant from the Dallas Zoo.
Tomlin took a personal interest in the case and flew to Dallas. In one of her interviews, she was quoted as saying, "The word ‘zoo’ is sort of elephant speak for Guantanamo."
I used the story in my Worldviews class.
Do you think human suffering is equal to animal suffering?
Ah, humor and current events! Sorry, sometimes I miss out on both those things!
I believe causing needless suffering is the definition of evil. Fundamentally, it makes no difference what shape the life takes—whether it be the shape of a spider or a human as far as being evil or not. However, because humans have much more complex minds and social structures, a human person and their family and friends offer much greater potential for suffering than a spider for instance. Therefore it is more evil to cause the needless suffering of a human. But this is all from our very egotistical human perspective. To the spider, it is far more evil to kill him than a human.
