thought of the day.414

Christians I have spoken with have suggested atheism leads to Stalinesque mass murder. That it requires belief in God to be good. But unlike Christianity whose scriptures reveal a God who commits, condones, or commands ecocide, genocide, infanticide, murder, rape, slavery, destruction of property, torture, and so on, atheism is simply the lack of belief in such a wicked character. Seems praising such a character as holy and perfect is much more likely to lead to similar acts.

What Christians do that?

I have read that in numerous books and have had numerous conversations with numerous friends who quote numbers killed by the likes of Stalin as evidence that atheism leads to immorality. Surely you have heard such arguments.

The argument I have heard is that atheism has no foundation for ethics. Not that atheists have done X and therefore atheism is immoral. That would not be a good argument.

I do believe that naturalism provides epistemological foundation for right and wrong.

This is why I questioned your post. I think the first sentence of the post is a bit inaccurate.

With regard to some of the things you say about the Christian God, it would be better to get together to talk about some of those things. Too much to type. : )
