thought of the day.62

When we’re disappointed by ourselves or others it’s good to remember that we’re merely fish-amphibian-reptile-mammal-hybrids in human’s clothing.

Yes, it certainly is great to realize that none of us have to take responsibility for our actions, isn't it? Because we're chance, it's lucky we happened anyway. Murderers really shouldn't be punished, neither should rapists, because after all, they are only doing what their doing as a result of chemical reactions in their minds, which happened as a result of chance when the Big Bang happened and an atom turned into a fish turned into a lizard turned into a human. They can't control the neurons firing. And besides, John, why should I even consider the fact that your beliefs might be right? No one really believes anything, it's just chemical reactions in the brain which happened to develop. Nothing means anything.

Kelsie, Never have I suggested we should not take responsibility for our choices. Quite the contrary. Our choices are the only things we truly own.

You cover a lot of ground here. I would suggest studying a bit about evolution. It is a beautiful and powerful explanation for how life developed. I think the fact that all life is linked encourages us to be more empathetic and reverential to all life, no matter the form.

Of course chemical reactions are at the root of all thoughts but that does not mean “nothing means anything.” I would agree with you that “it’s lucky we happened”! All the more reason to rejoice and be glad that we are!
